Etienne Lomet, Acoustics and Signal Processing Engineer, AR/VR
What do you enjoy most about working at Dirac?
The freedom we have in the research and development team. Also the fact that most of my work is driven by—even more so than by rules— good common sense, a love for good work, and a desire to learn and improve.
What is the coolest thing you're working on right now?
I'm working on the core of the Dirac 3D sound algorithms as part of the Dirac VR team!
What types of music do you usually listen to? What is your favorite music genre?
Electro, Funk, Fusion, Jazz, and Hip-hop.
Which movie and/or game do you think has the best sound experience?
None, my best sound experience hasn't yet been experienced. But I believe it lies somewhere in The Future of Sound.
What do you do in your free time?
Train at the gym, go climbing, play video games and... more video games (especially Dota 2 and Starcraft 2).
When you were a child, what did you think you would work with when you grew up?
As far as I have can remember, I don't recall ever stressing my mind even once over work and my professional future until, hmm... at least the end of high school.
I may have "enjoyed my childhood,” as they say. I do come from a tiny tiny village south of France... :p
What is something that people are obsessed with but you just don’t get the point of?
Makeup on women. That, and the lives of these completely regular pieces of meat and bone that people call "famous persons" (no seriously, please stop. They’re really only live advertisements for clothing brands).
What is your most favorite PC game ever?
Competitive: Dota 2
Pure art: Ori and the Blind Forest
What would you do if you had 1 billion kr?
I would stop trading my time for money and devote my days to: Personal science projects? Spending time with kids/grandkids? More time at the gym? Winning some senior category video game competitions? Who knows.
