Dirac shows Next Generation Automotive Audio Systems at CES
January 10, 2024
Dirac will co-exhibit with Treves and Tymphany to demonstrate how the Audio Foundry collaboration will drive automotive audio innovation
UPPSALA, Sweden, January 9, 2024 — Swedish digital audio pioneer Dirac today announced that its industry-leading Dirac Opteo automotive sound optimization solution will be on display at CES 2024 as part of a Tesla Model Y demo experience in the Audio Foundry booth #CP35 from January 9-12, 2024 in Las Vegas.
According to Hendrik Hermann, Vice President Automotive at Dirac, the CES demo highlights the power of Dirac’s technology to greatly improve audio performance for any sound system, as well as publicly announces the company’s participation in Audio Foundry, a collaborative makerspace, design center and testing lab that exists to expedite automotive audio innovation.
“We chose to combine our unparalleled cabin sound optimization solution with the Sonified by Trèves’ technology to ensure the Tesla’s audio system is anything but standard,” Hermann said. “Some of the Tesla’s factory-installed, traditional speakers have been replaced with Trèves’ exciters, presenting a new challenge for our technology. However, as any CES listener will attest, no matter how complex the system, automakers can continue to rely on Dirac to help achieve their signature sound.”
Hermann continued, “At the same time, being at the forefront of innovation in this space requires that experts in car audio, on both the software and hardware side, combine efforts and leverage each other’s strengths to streamline design processes and simplify implementation for auto manufacturers. That’s precisely the goal of our participation in Audio Foundry and we’re excited to put it into practice at CES 2024.”
The Tesla Model Y demo will feature an integrated Dirac Opteo and “Sonified by Trèves” technology system that enables OEMs to move car speakers out of doors and into less common locations, such as inside seats or under floor carpeting, freeing up space, reducing packaging complexity, and simplifying wiring.
The Dirac Opteo solution addresses the acoustic challenges common in cars through its patented multiple-input/multiple-output (MIMO) mixed phase impulse response correction technology that enables a vehicle’s speakers to work intelligently together to co-correct each other’s impulse responses. The collaborative effort exhibits how Dirac Opteo can deliver superior sound, regardless of the size, number or location of speakers in the system.
The Audio Foundry group and makerspace launched in September 2023 to bridge the divide between vehicle audio hardware, software and acoustic treatments and create the next generation of premium sound systems. Together, Dirac, Treves, Tymphany and other member brands are working across silos and suppliers to develop the car audio systems of the future.
“CES is an enormous opportunity for Audio Foundry to demonstrate its vision and exhibit the leadership our member partners embody in the automotive audio market,” said Matt Marchese, Automotive Business Unit Leader at Tymphany. “The collaborative approach is already identifying efficiencies and delivering new opportunities for automakers and customers, and we are just getting started at CES 2024.”
Dirac’s automotive audio solutions currently grace the cabins of leading automotive brands like Rolls Royce, Volvo, Polestar, Genesis, NIO and BYD, among many others.
