Swedish digital audio pioneer Dirac and ASUS, a global innovator of phones, computers and electronics, have brought to market the first category-redefining product of their new collaboration: the ASUS ROG Phone 3. Designed especially for mobile gaming, the ASUS ROG Phone 3 sets a new standard for smartphone experience, including powerful and immersive audio through its integration of Dirac’s patented audio algorithms.

“Today’s flagship smartphones allow users to do more than ever before, including online gaming – where high-quality audio is as critical as visuals, processing power, and other notable features” said Mats Oberg, Chief Sales Officer, Dirac. “ASUS understands that, which is why it teamed up with Dirac to design the digital audio system for their latest device. We’re proud of what we’ve together accomplished, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration for years to come.”

Creating a high-quality, immersive, and expanded soundscape from smartphones with two speakers placed next to each other is a challenge. However, a series of Dirac technologies are utilized to achieve this experience.

Dirac uses patented cross-talk cancelling MIMO controller to co-optimize ROG’s dual front-facing speakers and create a wide, spatial soundscape of high accuracy that envelops the user – delivering the ultimate sense of immersion for gaming and movies.

Furthermore, patented impulse response correction is applied to digitally upgrade the performance of ROG’s premium speakers to the next level – creating clear, crisp sound with balanced tonality and rich detail.

Psychoacoustic bass extends the bass response significantly, delivering powerful, deep tones from the built-in speakers. Multi-band dynamic range compression technology also works to amplify the volume and ensures that gamers hear every movement for the best possible gaming experience.

Furthermore, Dirac’s headphone optimization solution – with its patented impulse and magnitude response correction – digitally upgrades headphone sound quality to deliver natural, balanced sound with accurate sound localization that is ideal for both gaming and music listening.

The Dirac headphone optimization solution is now compatible with ROG headphones such as the ROG Cetra, ROG Delta, ROG Strix Go 2.4, and ROG Theta 7.1, amongst others.

DXOMARK, the world’s leading source of independent audio and camera quality measurements and ratings, gave the ROG Phone 3 a score of 75 for audio quality, placing it above virtually all other smartphone makes and models and ranking it the best among gaming smartphones.

“Gamers have exceedingly high standards when it comes to their technology, which is why we had to pull out all of the stops with the new ASUS ROG Phone 3,” stated Bryan Chang, General Manager, smartphone business unit at ASUS. “Collaborating with Dirac allowed us to not only to ensure that the device’s audio was every bit as impressive as its other features – but create a smartphone that boasts the market’s most impressive sound system.”

The new ASUS ROG Phone 3, available now, is based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 Plus 5G Mobile Platform, enabling desktop-level gaming with ultra-realistic graphics in high-performance smartphone. Despite the addition of a 5G modem and antennas, it’s the same physical size as its predecessors and still includes the biggest battery of any flagship phone — 6000mAh — for all-day gaming. It also comes with a 6.59-inch AMOLED display with 10-bit HDR10+ support and a 144Hz refresh rate.

Notably, the ASUS ROG Phone 3’s GameFX audio comprises upgraded speakers with seven magnets for more power and less distortion. One of the speakers is slightly larger, with an extra-long throw for helping generate deeper bass notes.

“However, the real boost in sound quality comes from our new partnership with Dirac, which is one of, if not the best when it comes to digital signal processing,” concluded Chang. “Together we have achieved a sound experience that is truly remarkable.”
